About Me
My name is Dehan Elcin. I was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey and moved to the United States in 2013. Breathwork has been the most transformative practice in my life, and I started PsyBreath to share it with others.
I received my training at Transformations USA, and am currently a Level III Certified Therapeutic Breathwork™ facilitator. I lead group and one-on-one Therapeutic Breathwork sessions in New Orleans.
In addition, I am pursuing a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at Tulane University. In my scientific research, I work to understand the healing that occurs during breathwork sessions both neurally and psychologically. I am interested in both the mechanism and outcomes of the altered states experience caused by breathwork.
How did you get into breathwork?
During a challenging phase in my life, I turned to talk therapy to seek assistance. Initially, therapy provided some relief, but after a year, I reached a point where progress seemed to stall. Recognizing this stagnation, my therapist suggested I explore alternative methods, one of which was breathwork.
My first encounter with group breathwork left me astounded. I had no idea that by simply using my breath, I could access such profound psychological states. However, like many individuals who try breathwork, I promptly returned to my usual daily routine after the session, and the memory of that experience faded away. It was only during another crisis, approximately six months later, that I vividly remembered the immense impact of that group session. Driven by this rememberance, I decided to reach out to Jack Fontana, the facilitator of the group session, and asked if he would be willing to work with me one-on-one.
Working with Jack was a transformative experience, altering the course of my life. As I ventured further into this practice, delving into its depths, I can’t help but feel that it was breathwork that found me, rather than the other way around, in retrospect.

How has breathwork helped you?
Breathwork has revolutionized my self-awareness and profoundly impacted every aspect of my life. It has become a gateway to discovering and accepting the depths of my being.
Remarkably, the way we engage with the energy that arises during our breathwork practice mirrors our approach to all facets of life. The way we navigate the peaks and valleys of our breath, the way we embrace the ebb and flow, reflects our ability to navigate the challenges and joys that life presents us. By cultivating mindfulness and conscious presence in our breathwork, we develop a profound understanding of how our responses to the breath mirror our responses to the world around us. This insight has made breathwork a transformative tool in my life.
Through its practice, I have learned to harness the power of my breath to explore the realms of my being and cultivate a harmonious relationship with the dynamic interplay of masculine and feminine energies. It has allowed me to embark on an endless journey of self-discovery, deepening my understanding of who I am, and enhancing my experience of life as a whole.
